Certification in Bioenergetics (i.e., CBT status) is offered only to professionals who are licensed in their respective states to provide psychological services. CBTs come from a variety of fields such as psychology, counselling, psychiatry, psychiatric nurses, and social work. They are differentiated from other therapists by the five or more additional years of required training in Bioenergetics, and a requirement for extensive personal therapy to understand their own conflicts and issues at the levels of mind, body and energy. Dear friends and colleagues: It was with great sadness that I inform you of the passing of our founder and mentor, Dr. Alexander Lowen. While expected, Al's death nevertheless carries the shock of immediacy and finality. It falls to us now to honor his legacy. We have little information about the circumstances of his death, other than it occurred on Tuesday October 28, and it seems he passed peacefully. We have many different layers of connection to Al in our community, some near to him, others from afar, but we are all the beneficiaries of his courage and determination.

The loss will be felt in many ways. I hope this serves as an opportunity for us to come together as a community and value our common heritage and grieve our loss together.
